The STARS Program: Helping Big River's First Responders Care for Special Needs Pediatric Patients
"The Special Needs Tracking and Awareness Response System (STARS) was created in partnership with Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital to provide first responders with a database that offers access to crucial medical information and details the unique needs or accommodations of special needs children throughout the area. The development of STARS aimed to provide these children with better outcomes and care.
Big River Ambulance District receives ongoing training through STARS. First responders with the District receive instruction on best responding, aiding, and caring for children with more complicated health diagnoses, neurological impairments, or rare health conditions. Training includes learning the best practices in providing care, ensuring that children feel safe and supported. STARS training also helps improve medical outcomes, as responders are better prepared to handle more difficult medical concerns for children."
